Manual 1: High-Yield Alfalfa Varieties: Tashkent 

This technical guide, published by the Republic of Uzbekistan Ministry of Agriculture through the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture (AKIS) in collaboration with the Asian Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI), presents comprehensive cultivation recommendations for the high-yielding alfalfa variety Toshkent 3091.

The document explains the scientific, biological, and economic characteristics of the variety, emphasizing its adaptability to Uzbekistan’s irrigated farming zones. Toshkent 3091 features strong, erect stems (80–120 cm tall), a deep root system (up to 10 m), and a leaf ratio of 55–65 %, providing excellent protein content in hay (20–22 %) and resilience to drought, frost, and common alfalfa diseases.

It includes detailed agrotechnical guidelines covering soil and crop rotation requirements, seed scarification and inoculation with Rhizobium meliloti, optimal planting times, irrigation regimes, and balanced fertilization schedules. The guide specifies that farmers can harvest 150–200 centners of dry hay or 500–700 centners of green mass per hectare annually, with up to 6–7 cuts per growing season.

Additional sections elaborate on post-harvest practices, forage preservation, and seed production techniques that maintain varietal purity and quality, ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability. Overall, this module aims to enhance fodder production efficiency, soil fertility regeneration, and income stability for Uzbekistan’s livestock and crop sectors through scientifically managed alfalfa cultivation.
