Manual 08:High-Yield Cucumber Variety: Ajax F1
This detailed guide, produced by the Republic of Uzbekistan Ministry of Agriculture and the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture (AKIS) in collaboration with the Asian Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI), provides comprehensive agrotechnical recommendations for cultivating the high-yield cucumber hybrid Ajax F1. It is designed for both open-field and protected cultivation conditions in Uzbekistan’s climate.
The guide introduces the biological and agricultural traits of Ajax F1, an early-maturing, parthenocarpic (self-pollinating) hybrid producing cylindrical, dark green cucumbers 8–10 cm long, weighing 80–100 grams, with high resistance to bitterness. With intensive drip irrigation and proper fertigated fertilization, yields can reach 40–60 tons per hectare in open fields and up to 35 kg per square meter in protected cultivation.
The manual stresses optimal irrigation scheduling and moisture control using tensiometers, balanced nutrient supply with detailed NPK and micronutrient fertigation schemes, vertical training and pruning techniques (removal of lateral shoots and early flowers), and use of mulches for moisture retention and weed control.
