Manual 05: High‑Yield Strawberry Varieties: Tong Ifori and Kobra

This illustrated agronomic guide, prepared by the Republic of Uzbekistan Ministry of Agriculture and the National Center for Knowledge and Innovation in Agriculture (AKIS) with the support of the Asian Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI), presents complete cultivation recommendations for two promising high‑yield strawberry varieties — Tong Ifori and Kobra. It provides step‑by‑step technical measures for site selection, planting, fertigation, pest control, and post‑harvest handling adapted to Uzbekistan’s climate.

Further sections explain practical field management: seasonal mulching with polyethylene or straw, removal of runners and excess leaves, protection against gray rot, verticillium wilt, mites, and weevils, and insulation techniques for overwintering under straw or agrofibre. Harvest timing, fruit grading, rapid cooling, and cold‑chain transport methods (0–1 °C; 90–95 % RH) are emphasized to maintain post‑harvest quality.

The final part details how to multiply runner‑derived nursery plants (moʻylov koʻchatlar), ensuring varietal purity and disease‑free propagation. Overall, this guide enables Uzbek farmers to achieve high‑quality year‑round production of strawberries that meet domestic and export standards while improving profitability and resource efficiency.
