Lessons Learned

Rebuilding livelihoods in Afghanistan’s rural communities

This brief highlights the achievements and impact of project activities in Afghanistan funded by the Crisis Response Initiative (CRI). These projects were designed to minimize the impact of the war in Ukraine on local food systems.

Despite the challenging and fragile context, IFAD continued to provide support, including training, equipment and technical assistance. These enabled rural people to navigate short-term challenges while building more sustainable and resilient livelihoods for the future.

The project boosted existing veterinary centres, leading to decreased animal mortality and morbidity. Herders were connected to dairy markets through milk collection centres, sales points and milk-processing plants that enabled them to sell their products at fair prices..
