Coping with Climate

How Extreme Weather is Already Impacting Internal Migrants

This research report, led by People’s Courage International (PCI) and ISET, explores how extreme weather—driven by climate change—is already affecting internal migrants across Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Nepal, and the Philippines. Based on surveys with nearly 24,000 migrants, the study reveals that 90% have experienced weather-related impacts, such as heatwaves, droughts, and flooding, both at their original homes and new destinations.

The report details the economic and social vulnerabilities of migrants, their coping mechanisms, and the lack of access to social protections. It highlights the growing role of climate as a driver of migration and offers actionable recommendations for governments, NGOs, and international bodies to better support internal migrants in the face of climate-related challenges.
