Call for Applications: Workshop on Co-Production of Knowledge
RCSD at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Chiang Mai University, supported by IDRC / CRDI and Norwegian People's Aid, invites applications for a five-day training workshop titled: Co-Production of Knowledge: Critical Dimensions of Participatory Action Research, to be held from 4–8 May 2026 at Chiang Mai University.
This workshop is designed for graduate students, early-career scholars, journalists, and development practitioners across Southeast Asia. Participants will explore how participatory action research (PAR) works in practice, using Thai Baan research as a primary case study. The curriculum focuses on shifting local communities from being objects of study to active knowledge producers, particularly in the face of environmental conflicts, agrarian change, and the climate crisis.
The program includes three key components:
Lectures and thematic discussions on political ecology, environmental justice, and research ethics.
Case studies and experience sharing regarding social movements and community-engaged research.
A field visit to learn directly from community members about local resource management and environmental knowledge.
The workshops supports travel, accommodation, and meals for selected participants. Preference is given to applicants currently in Thailand, with limited spots for exceptional candidates from the broader Southeast Asian region.
