Rural Advisory Services in times of crisis

Collective Efforts for Rehabilitation and Building Resilience in NENA

In times of crisis, such as conflict, natural disasters, economic shocks, or forced displacement, Rural Advisory Services (RAS) play a vital role in supporting rural communities. Beyond providing access to inputs and services, RAS act as a critical bridge, delivering timely information and trusted guidance that helps smallholders adapt, recover, and rebuild their livelihoods. Yet RAS providers themselves often face reduced capacity during times of crisis.   This webinar will explore how RAS providers operate in crisis-affected contexts across the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region, and how these services can contribute to rehabilitation and building long-term resilience. It will highlight country-level experiences from public extension systems and examine the challenges and innovations emerging from fragile settings. The webinar builds on outcomes of the first AFRAS Annual Meeting held in Amman, where discussions on RAS and resilience in conflict contexts helped shape this initiative. The session will bring together key stakeholders and practitioners to reflect on barriers to inclusive, needs-based service delivery and explore adaptable practices and lessons learned.
