Photobook – Sweetening the deal: How partnering with cocoa farmers is a win-win in Indonesia

This photobook showcases the impact of the Rural Empowerment and Agriculture Development Scaling-up Initiative (READSI) and Mars Cocoa Academy in Indonesia. Funded by IFAD and the Government of Indonesia, READSI is notable for its public-private partnership with Mars Inc., one of the world’s largest manufacturers of confectionery and chocolate.

This partnership focuses on training cocoa farmers to become experts referred to as cocoa doctors. Cocoa doctors become specialists in their field and can run their own businesses, thereby improving food security, enhancing welfare for farmers and attracting young rural people to farming.

Seven cocoa doctors share their stories, showing us how the right investments in the right kind of training at the right time can transform rural lives.
